Dundee bartender nominated for the best Scottish industry awards

The manager of Dundee’s ‘secret speakeasy’ bar is among the few local nods for an industry awards ceremony.

Bréagha Wolfgang, manager of the Draffens themed bar, is in the running for the Scottish Licensed Trade News (SLTN) Barperson of the Year award.

The bartender has only been in the industry for a few years, working in several local venues, but has been recognized by industry insiders as a rising star.

Draffens is designed to resemble a sweatshop from the 1920s during the heyday of American Prohibition, and refers to the old Dundee department store from which it takes its name.

SLTN said: “In just a few short years, Bréagha has carved out an impressive career in the hospitality industry, rapidly climbing the ranks of this Dundee underground bar.

“A true human person, Bréagha enjoys interacting with guests and with other team members, with whom she quickly shares her knowledge.

“Bréagha regularly participates in cocktail competitions and is involved in as many tastings, trainings and trips as she can to further deepen her knowledge.”

This is the latest nod to the famous Dundee mixologist, who has also won industry cocktail contests in recent years.

Several Dundee watering holes are also up for grabs at the ceremony, which will take place on Thursday, November 18 at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow.
