A Glasgow comedian has said Scots are some of the ‘smartest people in the world’ – and it all depends on our accents.
Many people know that the Scottish (and Glasgow) accent can be difficult to understand if you’re not local, with Glasgow’s Gogglebox couple being a prime example after viewers flooded social media asking for subtitles. securities.

Discussing why he has come to the conclusion that the Scots are superior to others, he explained that if you are Scots and have ever been on holiday, either flying to France or traveling to England and in his words “or Edinburgh”, there may have been a time when someone had a hard time understanding you.
He continued, “If someone has ever told you that they can’t understand what you’re saying because you’re talking too fast and you need to slow down, tell them. ‘Nope‘You don’t speak too fast.
“Tell them they’re actually listening too slowly.
“You see, scientific research shows that the brain can process thoughts about 800 times faster than you can actually speak.
“The speaking rate per minute for an American is around 125 words. If you’re from the UK, that will go up to around 140.
“If you’re from Scotland it’ll go up to 189, but if you’re from Glasgow it’s around 674 words per minute.”
After explaining the difference in words per minute, which was perhaps a bit exaggerated, he concluded: “What I’m trying to say is that if we can talk faster than anyone else , it means that our brain can think faster than anyone else.
“So scientifically speaking, we’re the smartest in the world. So if someone tells you to slow down, just tell them to shut up.”
