Keep the housing tax affordable
Scottish taxpayers are already getting best deal in uk – for example, in a D-band property, people in Scotland pay on average £600 less than in England and around £400 less than in Wales.
We are also committed to protecting the Council Tax Reduction Scheme, which helps target aid to those who need it most.
The SNP will also scrap council tax for anyone under 22. For a youngster living alone in a Band B property, this will mean an annual saving of around £750.
Support local businesses
In this election, we pledge to maintenance of the small business bonus – ensure that 100,000 commercial properties will not pay any professional rates.
SNP councils will also continue to support local economies in their recovery from the pandemic – and we will explore a new national digital sales tax to level the playing field between physical and online retail.
We will also strive to support thriving town centers and high streets through the town center first principle, ensuring that the impact on town centers is considered in all investment decisions. .
Developing early learning and child care
Through the joint work of the SNP Government and Councils across Scotland, we have delivered a transformational expansion of free early learning and child care at 1,140 hours per year.
This helps give children the best start in life and saves families who take advantage of this right around £4,900 per child each year.
We want to go even further. SNP Councils will build a wrap-around serviceoffering before and after school care, year-round.
Those with the lowest incomes will pay nothing – and the contributions of others will be fair and affordable.
