Thirty-seven Scottish businesses have secured a place in a national energy efficiency contract that will help Scottish councils and housing associations achieve their net zero ambitions.
The Scotland Excel Energy Efficiency Entrepreneur Framework has been set up to help councils and housing associations reduce carbon emissions, tackle energy poverty and create warmer homes.
A total of 46 UK-based suppliers have joined the framework. They each have the chance to get a share of the business – which is expected to be worth £800million over four years.
The frame will enable councils and housing associations to improve the housing stock by sourcing from frame suppliers who have passed the tender process and are ready for business.
Councilor John Shaw, Head of Scotland Excel, said: “I welcome the launch of this contract which will provide councils and housing associations with a one stop shop for a range of innovative energy efficiency measures. With sustainability at its core, it will support the Scottish Government‘s drive to achieve Net Zero by 2045 by supporting councils and housing associations in their efforts to tackle energy poverty and reduce carbon emissions.
“It will also bring significant opportunities to businesses that have secured a place in the framework, which includes 37 Scottish suppliers, 33 of which are SMEs. I’m also delighted that we’ve upgraded and improved its first-generation framework to support a rapidly growing market – and that includes the introduction of a new bundle of professional services.
The framework will allow contractors to provide a range of measures including wall, floor and attic insulation; window and door replacement and renovation, insulation, roof repair and replacement, electric heating, air and geothermal heat pumps as well as renewable energy and energy storage solutions.
Scotland Excel worked closely with ESP to develop the framework, to ensure it supports the national drive to improve skills and work within the industry. This collaboration will help fill the gaps and ensure the supply chain is equipped to meet demand in the years to come.
John Renwick, Sector Head – Construction – at ESP, said: “ESP welcomes the launch of Scotland Excel’s new energy efficiency contractor framework. The two agencies have worked together over the past year to implement the new Installer Competency Matrix which has been incorporated into the updated BSI PAS 2030 (2019) standards.
“The matrix will help the supply chain understand the training and qualifications they need to demonstrate competence in the energy efficiency and microgeneration sector in Scotland. This is a positive step for both agencies – recognizing skills as a catalyst for achieving net zero goals. This will not only improve the quality and standards of facilities in Scotland, but also create new jobs and new apprentices for a thriving market.
